Thomas Rutherford

Cyber Security graduate · infrastructure & data tinkerer

I’m a first-class Cyber Security graduate currently based in Felixstowe, although I’m very willing to relocate for the right role.

Currently I work in the quality and compliance department at a logistics company. Day-to-day I verify prospective customers, review company records, carry out spot checks on declarations and among other responsibilities, assist the team with general ad hoc tasks.

In my own time I run a small business selling both fine wine and digital goods. To support the wine side of the business, I’ve built a data pipeline that tracks prices across dozens of bonded merchants, which helps me identify buying opportunities, this runs on my homelab. My projects noted below are where I explain how they work, start wherever looks interesting.

I’m looking to move into a dedicated technical role. If that’s why you’re here, the project write-ups are the quickest way to see how I think.

Projects 2

Bonded Wine Trade 1 write-up
Software that follows the price of fine wine across the bonded market, tidies up messy merchant data, and helps identify buying opportunities
Mini Rack Homelab 1 write-up
A small home data centre in a 10 inch mini rack, my own network, servers and storage. I use this to teach myself the infrastructure real companies run on, and to host my tools round the clock.
